Lamoille Canyon

Lamoille Canyon is in the Ruby Mountains near Elko Nevada.

From the desert floor at 6,000 ft, the mountains rise up to Ruby Dome at 11,388 ft.

The Ruby mountains are the headwaters for the Humboldt River, which defined the California Trail through Nevada for emigrants in the 1800s.

Approaching the Ruby Mountains.

The road through Lamoille Canyon climbs to a parking lot at 8,800 ft.

There are a couple of glacial canyons that feed into Lamoille Canyon.

From the parking lot it is 2.5 miles up to Lamoille Lake at 9,740 ft.

Near Lamoille Lake looking back down the canyon.

Dollar Lakes just below Lamoille Lake.

Lamoille Lake with Liberty Pass behind on the left. Liberty Pass is the main route to the lakes and peaks beyond.

I took the blue path up and the red path down. Blue is a much nicer route.
