The planned ride

I think the only difference is the way through San Clemente. I was not paying attention to the route slip and just went the way I knew. I heard someone behind me and didn't realize my error until later. It didn't really matter since both routes end up in the same place.

HB to La Jolla Century
Our planning map. http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=3022350
The breadcrumb trail from my GPS. http://connect.garmin.com/dashboard?cid=12433
We left HB about 7:30 am.
Our only mechanical issue. Jim got a flat about 13 miles in.
We had some rolling hills (and two steep ones) through Lake Forest, El Toro, Laguna Hills and Laguna Niguel.
Lunch at 11:30, Laguna Niguel, Mile 45. Ate at Peet's/Quiznos.
Flew down the hill into Dana Point then had a nice easy ride on the beach access road for a few miles. The bike path from Dana Point to San Clemente was next to the highway but separated from the road by a barrier. The circuitous path through San Clement continually went up and down, but never too far. Then finally came the long straight flat sections that connect San Clemente with Oceanside.
San Onofre Nuclear Power Station mile 58.
Riding through Camp Pendelton Marine Corps Base miles 67 to 76.
Riding through Camp Pendelton Marine Corps Base miles 67 to 76.
Riding through Camp Pendelton Marine Corps Base miles 67 to 76.
Oceanside, Mile 76, 3:15
Carlsbad, Mile 80, 3:45. We stopped at a gas station to refuel (Gatorade and some snacks that is) then through the heavily trafficed town of Oceanside until we finally emerged the other side and ended up in...
Leucadia, mile 86, 4:17
Self Realization Fellowship church in Encinitas. It marks a surf spot known locally as Swamis because of the church architecture.
Solana Beach, Mile 92, 4:48
Bottom of Torrey Pines, Mile 96, 5:20
Going up Torrey Pines hill. Jim looks cool but this hurts.
100 Miles.
View from 100 miles
Jim and me at 100 miles
Cross street at 100 miles
Other cross street at 100 miles
Sweet relief.
