Craters of the Moon is a volcanic park on the north side of the Snake River Plane. The Snake River Plane was created as the north American continent moved west over Yellowstone hotspot. Craters of the Moon was over the hotspot between 7 and 10 million years ago. It left behind enough heat that volcanic activity still continues. The park highlights lava flows from about 2,000 years ago.
