Bangkok Revisited

A funny story. Our tickets to go home were for Saturday the 17th
leaving Phuket early afternoon with a layover in Bangkok and then to
LA. I went online early Saturday morning and found out the Thai
airlines no longer has a Saturday flight from Bangkok to LAX and we have
been rescheduled for Sunday (ha ha ha ha ha). Previously Rebecca got an
email when they changed our flights (this was the third time), but no
email this time (ha ha ha ha ha). We ended up having to stay in Bangkok
for an extra night (ha ha ha ha ha).

We went into town, which was good because I was able to retake some of
the pictures that had been lost previously. We came back to the hotel
thinking we had a 7:30 flight to catch. We had plenty of time so I went
up to the pool for a swim. Rebecca came up a little later telling me
that our flight was rescheduled for 6:30 (ha ha ha ha ha). We still had
enought time, but now it was getting ridiculous. We checked the board
at the airport and sure enough it showed a 6:30 departure. Then we got
our boarding passes and they showed a 6:50 boarding time (ha ha ha ha
ha). Back to the board, still 6:30 departure. This is when I started
thinking about some heavy drinking. About 5:30 they "fixed" the problem
by calling the flight delayed and showing a 7:30 departure time (ha ha
ha ha ha). We checked the gate and the plane was already waiting.

Anyway, the pictures and video of the largest reclining Buddha in
Thailand (maybe the world) is from Wat Pho (watt-poe not what-fo').
Then we took the ferry across the Chao Phrya river to the Wat Arun which
we climbed up. This was our third trip to both of these because we
really wanted some pictures and the camera had corrupted the memory card
after the first two trips. We took a tuk tuk (taxi) to Chinatown to see
the 5-1/2 ton solid gold Buddha, but I don't have pictures of that
because the camera crapped out again during the tuk tuk ride (I was
taking video). The camera is a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5. Don't buy
one. I am in the market for compact cameras with high optical zooms
(more than 5x).

I hope you got a chuckle out of this. I expect to laugh about it someday.

I am writing this on the plane ride home since I can't sleep. We woke
up at 7:00 this morning which would have been 4:00 Saturday afternoon in
LA. I figure we will get to our house at 8:00 Sunday night so I will be
pushing 30 hours awake when I go to sleep. Monday at work is going to
be fun for me. The kids are sleeping so hopefully they will fare better
at school (assuming they sleep tonight). Rebecca thought ahead and
planned a recovery day, but you have already read about that.

Roadtrip

We went on a roadtrip off the island and discovered this beautiful
beach. It was a welcome change after the crowded beaches of Phuket. We
were literally the only ones there. On the way home we stopped at the
national park on the island.

The Big Buddha of Phuket

It is a big Buddha. Enough said.
